On offer is the top-notch model of the Porsche 911 996 series – one of the very rare GT2 in best condition and with a mileage of not even 13,000 km.

In 1997, Porsche presented the new 996 series of their icon 911. This was the first fundamental redevelopment of the 911 since its introduction in 1964, which carried the 911 forward to the actual level of technology.

The top model of this series, the GT2, was then first presented in 2001. 

The GT 2 was available at an original price starting at 339,000 DM, which was more than twice the price of a Carrera 2 Coupé (listed with 143,840 DM in 2001).

Compared with its predecessor 993 GT2, the 996 GT2 was not a thoroughbred racing car built for homologation purposes. Instead, it had been explicitly developed to be an extremely powerful road vehicle.

Some of its features make the GT2 distinguishable from the 996 turbo it was based on:

- rear wheel drive
- different front spoiler and larger rear spoiler
- wider wings/fenders
- no rear seats
- carbon-ceramics-brakes 

The 996 was the first Porsche and, to our knowledge, the first production car at all to be equipped with carbon-ceramic-brakes by default. These can be identified very easily due to the yellow brake calipers.

The chassis, too, shows many attributes from motorsports. So unlike its more civil siblings, the GT2’s chassis is not mounted in rubber, but on uniball-joints. This makes the chassis more rigid and makes the steering more precise. In addition, the chassis could be adjusted in track and camber.

Different from the standard 996-motors, the engine of the 996 turbo, GT3 and GT2 are based on the motor of the legendary GT1.

The GT2 was ranked higher than the GT3, and compared to that, does have a turbo motor with nearly 100 PS more. Even compared with the 996 turbo, until then the most powerful 996, the GT2 had around 10 per cent more power, making for a total of 462 PS (338 kW). Whereas the turbo came as an all-wheel drive by default, the GT2 was delivered with a sheer rear drive.

Also, with 630 NM between 3,500 and 4,500 revolutions per minute it has an enormous torque which at any given moment catapults the car ahead. This was reached through a larger compressor and turbine wheel, optimized charge air cooler and higher charge pressure than the standard turbo produces.

The performance mirrors all this, with the car shooting from 0 to 100 km/h within 4.1 seconds and reaching a maximum speed of 315 km/h. Not too big a surprise, as the GT2 at its time was the most powerful 911 for road use at all.

A total of 1,058 cars of the 911 GT2 996 has been built: 963 in the series MK1 with 462 PS, plus 324 in the series MK2. The latter has 483 PS and different wheels, but otherwise does not differ a lot from the series MK1.

The car offered here has been first registered on 1st of August 2001 for the company Pulitalia Mobile from Vicenza. 

In addition to the abundant standard equipment, the first owner ordered the car with the following extras:

- windscreen tinted green
- roof liner upholstered with leather
- sun shields upholstered with leather
- back rests upholstered with leather
- Porsche emblem embossed into neck-rests

On 2nd October 2003 at Treviso, the car was licensed for Signore Pierluigi Gabrielli.

On 22nd March 2012 at Padua, the car was deregistered for export to Germany. The mileage at this day was 9,997 km.

Registration for the actual and in total third owner happened on 30th March 2012 in Germany.

The complete board wallet including the service brochure is with the car, and in spite of the low mileage, the car was serviced regularly: Five times in Italy and three times since arrival in Germany in 2012.

Also, the brake fluid has been changed in 2005, 2007, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018.

Driving this GT2 feels like driving a brand new car. The chassis is as tight as on the day of delivery and together with the sensational motor offers pure joy.

The GT2 was carefully checked for us by Jochen Bader. Mr. Bader was the manager of the factory’s own Porsche Classic Workshop and as such responsible for the factory restorations. He is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable specialists in the appraisal of Porsche cars and travelling worldwide for Porsche collectors to evaluate the condition and the originality of special examples of the brand.
