The idea for the BMW Z8 was born in 1993, when a BMW 507 was presented to Eberhard von Kuehnheim, the company director at the time. This icon from the fifties inspired the board to have a new sports car designed. At the beginning of 2000, the Z8 was finally launched. The side air outtakes, the classic dashboard and the flat, wide kidney grille of the Z8 drew the connection to the 507 without being overly retro in its design language.
Since the regular Z8 was only available with a manual transmission, BMW commissioned the automobile manufacturer Alpina to develop a slightly more comfortable alternative with automatic transmission. From June 2002 to October 2003 Alpina produced a limited run of only 555 units. The official designation for the model is Alpina V8 Roadster. 450 units went to the USA and a further 105 cars were delivered in Europe and Japan.
Since the normal Z8 engine could not be combined with the available automatic transmissions, the 4.8 litre V8 engine developed by Alpina was chosen. Compared to the standard Z8, this engine has a slightly lower output at 381 PS (280 kW) and in return a higher torque in the lower speed ranges. Alpina also made the steering a little lighter and extensively reworked the chassis, which was tuned to be more comfortable. Many Alpina details can be found on and in the vehicle, such as the badge with the respective serial number of the limited small series. But the most striking feature of the Alpina V8 Roadster are the beautiful 20 inch rims in the classic Alpina design.
The vehicle offered here was delivered to the USA in February 2003 and was first registered there in Los Angeles in March 2003. The exterior color is silver in the classic combination with black leather. According to the Carfax report available to us, the V8 Roadster remained with the first owner at least until 2011. The last mileage documented in the USA was 23,796 miles or 38,295 km on March 17, 2011. The car was then exported to Germany and received an inspection at a BMW dealership on August 28, 2013 at 41,100 km. The car was converted to European taillights etc. and the side marker lights at the rear were removed, so that the car optically corresponds to its German counterpart.
Since 22.11.2013 the car is in last hand in Germany. A further inspection was carried out in 2015 at 42,111 km. The current mileage is almost 44,000 km.
In November 2019 the car received a major service at a BMW and Alpina dealer and was approved by the TÜV. So it is ready for the new season right away.
The original hardtop and the wind deflector also come with the car.
The car is available for an inspection by appointment only in 33415 Verl, Germany. We are happy to show you the car and the documents and have a lift available as well.
